Working out how much storage space you need in Singapore is easier when you start with the belongings in each room rather than guessing a floor area. A few sealed boxes need a very different solution from a sofa, dining table, bed frame and twenty cartons. This practical guide will help Singapore households estimate what they need before asking for a quotation.
The goal is not to predict an exact measurement from memory. It is to create a clear item list, identify bulky pieces and decide which belongings may need to be returned first. Pack & Store can then compare box, individual-item and managed space options based on the actual load.
Start with an item list, not a room-size guess
Walk through the home one room at a time. Write down every box, suitcase, piece of furniture and unusually shaped item you expect to store. Photos are useful because they show proportions that a simple description may miss.
For each item, record:
- The quantity
- Approximate dimensions
- Whether it can be dismantled
- Whether it will be packed in a box
- Whether it is fragile or especially heavy
- How soon you may need it returned
Do not count cupboards, wardrobes or shelves as empty space. Include the belongings inside them as separate boxes or items. Allow a little room for things discovered during packing.

Living room storage
Living rooms often contain the largest and most awkward pieces. Common storage items include sofas, armchairs, coffee tables, television consoles, side tables, rugs, lamps and display items.
A sofa can take up more practical storage space than many boxes because its shape may prevent other items from being stacked safely. Measure its full length, width and height. Note whether legs, cushions or modular sections can be removed. Do the same for tables and television consoles.
If the room contains only several packed cartons and a small side table, individual box and bulky-item pricing may be suitable. If you are storing most of the living room during renovation or relocation, ask for a managed storage space quotation.
Bedroom storage
A typical bedroom may produce clothing boxes, bedding, books, a mattress, bed frame, bedside tables, a study desk and a chair. Start by separating soft items from furniture.
Clothes, linens and smaller personal belongings should be packed securely. Standard box storage is intended for boxes up to approximately 60 × 40 × 40 cm and a maximum of 20 kg each. Pack & Store’s standard box storage starts from S$7 per box per month, with a minimum of five boxes and three months.
Mattresses, bed frames and wardrobes require individual assessment. Record mattress size and whether the bed frame or wardrobe can be dismantled. Furniture and bulky-item storage starts from S$12 per item per month, while moving and transport charges are quoted separately. See the furniture storage service for the collection process.
Kitchen and dining area
Kitchen storage usually involves more boxes than expected. Crockery, cookware, small appliances, pantry equipment and serving items need careful packing. Use smaller boxes for heavy objects so each carton stays manageable.
Do not store food, liquids that may leak, flammable materials or perishable goods. Pack & Store’s storage FAQ also excludes illegal or prohibited items, living things and high-value items such as jewellery, precious metals, antiques and fine art.
For the dining area, list the table, chairs, sideboard and any cartons separately. Note whether the table legs can be removed. A complete dining set combined with other household furniture may make a space plan more practical than individual-item pricing.
Storeroom, utility area and balcony
These areas commonly contain luggage, festive decorations, sports equipment, tools, spare household supplies and items that have not been used recently. Sort everything before estimating storage.
Create four groups: keep at home, store, donate or dispose, and prohibited for storage. There is little value in paying to store broken or unwanted items. Label every box clearly and keep a simple inventory so you can request the right item later.
Suitcases and your own containers can be stored when properly packed and securely closed. Small boxes with a total length, width and height of no more than 85 cm start from S$4 per month, although standard S$7 box storage is more common.
Home office and business items
A home office may include document cartons, stock, equipment, monitors, chairs and shelving. Keep business records separate from household belongings so retrieval is easier.
Document storage starts from S$4 per carton per month and is designed for archive boxes and business files that may need to be retrieved later. Businesses storing inventory, equipment or larger quantities should request a tailored quotation rather than relying on a household estimate. Learn more about document storage.

When should you choose boxes, bulky-item storage or a space plan?
Choose box storage when:
- Most belongings fit securely into standard cartons
- You have at least five boxes
- You expect to store them for at least three months
- You can keep each standard box within the 20 kg limit
Ask for bulky-item pricing when:
- You have only a few pieces of furniture or oversized items
- The rest of the load consists of a manageable number of boxes
- You can provide measurements and photographs
Ask for a managed space plan when:
- You are storing furniture from several rooms
- You are moving, renovating or going overseas
- You have many boxes plus beds, sofas, tables or appliances
- You want Pack & Store to compare the total storage and transport cost
Managed storage space plans start from S$125 per month. A separate one-time moving or transport charge is quoted according to the pickup load and requirements.
Allow for access and return needs
The amount of space is only one consideration. Think about when you will need particular belongings again. Group items by likely return date and label boxes consistently. Avoid spreading one category across several unmarked cartons.
Pack & Store provides door-to-door storage across Singapore. Items can be collected from HDB flats, condominiums and offices, then returned when needed. The service removes the need to drive to a self-storage facility or arrange a van yourself. Review how the service works before booking.
Information to prepare for an accurate quotation
Send the following information:
- A complete item list with quantities
- Clear photographs of furniture and bulky items
- Measurements where possible
- Your pickup postal code
- Expected storage duration
- Preferred collection date
- Details of stairs, long carrying distances or building restrictions
This helps the team recommend box, individual-item or space-based storage and identify any separate moving requirements.
Frequently asked questions
Can I estimate storage using only the number of rooms?
Room count is a useful starting point, but it is not accurate enough for a final quotation. Two three-room flats may contain very different amounts of furniture and boxes. An item list and photographs give a clearer estimate.
What if I discover more items during packing?
Update the item list before collection whenever possible. This allows the team to revise the recommendation and prepare suitable manpower and transport.
Should I choose a space plan for only five boxes?
Usually, standard box storage is the more relevant starting point for a small number of suitable cartons. Space plans are intended for many boxes, furniture, bulky items, moving or renovation needs.
Are moving charges included in monthly storage?
For space plans and bulky-item requirements, monthly storage and moving or transport charges are quoted separately. Ask for the complete cost before confirming the booking.
